How much infrastructure can one reluctant arcade villain break? When Ralph is introduced to the Internet, the potential for trouble multiplies exponentially. What happens, then, in our first look at Wreck-It Ralph 2?
Mr. Litwak, owner of Litwak’s Arcade, feels behind the times in a lot of ways, and it’s never been made more obvious than the moment he wires his business to Wifi for the first time — in 2018, using a bulbous blue iMac to connect. Ralph from Fix-It Felix Jr. and Vanellope from Sugar Rush see a strange new sign in the Power Strip Station, and decide to investigate. There may be more to it than this, but one thing we do know is that Ralph wrecks the Internet eventually.
The trailer makes mention of Zootopia, which is fitting, because as with the trailer for that film, this one focuses on one particular scene. And just like Zootopia, it’s a good one. Ralph and Vannellope wander into a simplistic app game for toddlers where the goal is to feed a rabbit pancakes and a kitten milkshakes, and…to say more would ruin it, but it got an audible laugh from me.
