Recently it was reported across the Net that DC’s Suicide Squad was being reshot due to a deceptive trailer making the movie look funnier and zanier than it really was. The story was that all the jokes in the film were contained in the first trailer. Then a NEW trailer came out mere days after the rumor started, that included new humorous bits, which poked a hole in the story. There was simply no way new footage could have been shot, edited and mixed that quickly.
Director David Ayer set the record straight. The reshoots are real; they’re happening right now. But they’re not to change the tone of the picture at all. “‘Reshoots for humor’ is silly,” he said on Twitter. Rather, the extra shots are a gift from WB, who LIKES the current cut of the film and wanted to give Ayer more to work with. “When a studio loves your movie and asks what else you want, go for it!”
Jai Courtney, who plays Captain Boomerang in Suicide Squad, also confirmed what Ayer said. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, he answered “I wouldn’t say we’re going back to make it funnier.”
So was the movie crazy all along, or is the entire campaign a lie? The truth will come out August 5.
