Everyone’s been wondering for the past eighteen months: what are they going to call the upcoming standalone Han Solo prequel? How obvious does the answer we got today feel?
Ron Howard appeared in a short Twitter video this morning to reveal the official title….Solo: A Star Wars Story. Those hoping for something a little more exotic were let down. It’s just “Solo,” people.

If you’ve been following the development of “Solo” then you know it hasn’t been an easy one. Howard was not attached to the project from the beginning; he was brought on to replace Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, reportedly after Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy didn’t appreciate their encouragement of ad-libs on the set.
This singular title could bring up an issue in the future. Han Solo is such a dynamic and iconic character that we doubt Disney would make just one solo Solo. Calling a potential sequel “Solo II” would feel clunky and not like Star Wars at all. Perhaps they should have gone the subtitle route for this one.
There was no footage revealed for “Solo” in the video, but we may get that wish granted very soon. With a release date of May 25, 2018, the odds of a trailer appearing before The Last Jedi are high.
