SDCC2010: Avengers Assemble and Man of Action Goes "Ultimate"

by on July 24, 2010

Marvel Animation screened the first two episodes of their new animated series, Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes on Saturday at the 2010 San Diego Comic Con. The story focuses on the formation of the Avengers, featuring the original members from the first issue of the original Avengers comic created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in the 1960’s: Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Wasp, Ant-Man, and Giant-Man. Before the screening, the Avengers’ computer JARVIS (voiced by Phil LaMarr) screened the crowd to ensure they were all authorized to attend the event. JARVIS then picked winners for a contest by announcing unique badge numbers from special Avengers ID badges handed out at the Marvel booth. JARVIS also stated that twenty five minute micro-episodes would be broadcast on Disney XD before the series officially starts later this fall.

Following the conclusion of the screening, Marvel Entertainment Head of Television Jeph Loeb came out to make a special announcement. While Brian Michael Bendis was announced as a writer for the new animated series, Ultimate Spider-man, Loeb also formally asked the action-adventure cartoon creators Man of Action (Steven T. Seagle, Joe Kelly, Joe Casey, and Duncan Rouleau) to serve as executive producers of the series. Man of Action convened on the spot and formally accepted the offer, thus announcing their involvement with the series.
