Who’s the most electric voice you could choose for Detective Pikachu? If you’re like most people, you said Danny DeVito….so what do you think of Ryan Reynolds?
In a development we’re all but certain Deadpool is going to be commenting on in his sequel, Reynolds has been cast as the voice of Detective Pikachu in Legendary Pictures’ live-action Pokemon adaption. THR reports that he’ll be performing his role in motion capture (those reels better leak out) and act alongside actress Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies) and Justice Smith (the upcoming Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom).
Smith is playing somebody whose father has been kidnapped, and Newton’s character, plus Reynolds’ gruff gumshoe rodent, team up to find him. We have hope for this movie — Alex Hirsch of Gravity Falls fame wrote the script for it.
Legendary’s work in progress will be the first live-action movie tied to the Pokemon franchise. Strangely enough, the specific game this movie is based on has never received a release outside of Japan. Detective Pikachu made his debut in a 3DS game, complete with hat and speech, but the game was never translated.
