How faboo is this? Warner Bros. Animation and Amblin Entertainment are officially teaming back up to produce Animaniacs once again! Could you ask for a better start to the new year?
Two seasons have been greenlit and are in production now. His Eminence Steven Spielberg will once again serve as executive producer, while Sam Register, Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank will oversee the production on WB’s end. We don’t know which of the side characters will be making the cut in the new version, but Pinky and the Brain are at least confirmed, being a visible part of the press release art.
“We cannot wait to work with Steven Spielberg and the entire Amblin and Warner Bros. teams to bring more sketches, catchphrases, songs and laughs from the Animaniacs to kids and adults everywhere,” says Craig Erwich, Senior VP of content at Hulu. “Now one of the most beloved, inventive and funny animated franchises in history, Animaniacs and its cast of witty characters can live on, on Hulu. This marks yet another big move for us as we continue our efforts to be the No. 1 streaming destination for premium animated content.”
So how long will we have to wait? …..At least two years. The new Animaniacs isn’t scheduled to premiere on Hulu until 2020. In the meantime, Hulu now has the streaming rights to the original Animaniacs, as well as Tiny Toon Adventures and Pinky and the Brain (as well as their Elmyra-centric follow-up).
UPDATE: Maurice LaMarche has provided his own spin on the announcement, reading from the news in the voice of….no, not the Brain….better.

Before he tweeted this, LaMarche said “I guess I can talk about this now,” implying he’s been in on the production and is returning to voice the Brain — and if LaMarche is back, the likelihood of other VAs returning is higher. Stay tuned!
