What’s Nintendo planning once the Switch has run its cycle? Do they already have ideas?
While it’s very true that video game developers have to be rooted in the present to ensure their consoles and games do well, it’s also very true that they have to be looking ahead to the future. To that end, publishers will sometimes start thinking about the next console they’ll be making after they’ve just launched their newest one. And that’s exactly what Nintendo is doing right now.
At the BAFTA awards, general manager of Nintendo’s EPD revealed this:
“Nintendo constantly works on hardware, so we have been doing research and development, so you may see the new system sometime in the future.”
Now, before warning bells go off, it should be noted that the Big N always does this. After the Wii U launched, they started thinking about what would eventually become the Switch. So it’s not surprising that they are already thinking about what’s next. But believe us when we say the Switch is doing just fine. It’s still selling incredibly well, and Nintendo without a doubt has some big things coming to it this year like Smash Bros.
They’re just preparing for the future, that’s all.
