Hollywood Reporter Speaks to Indian Animator Gitanjali Rao at Cannes

As part of their coverage of the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, The Hollywood Reporter has spoken to Indian animator Gitanjali Rao, who 2006 debut, “Printed Rainbow,” premiered at that year’s Cannes Film Festival where it won three awards including best short. Her latest film, “True Love Story,” is screening at Cannes this year. Among other topics, Rao discusses the challenges of being an independent animator in India, how she funds her films when she eschews making films for children and many other sources for funding in modern-day Indian cinema, how her latest film is a reaction to Bollywood, and the challenges she faces as a female filmmaker and animator.
