WOW Unlimited Media is partnering with Bell Media to create a new linear kids channel in Canada. They have acquired Comedy Gold from Bell and will convert into the kids channel. How will there be a market for another kids channel in Canada? There are already 11 English language kids channels in Canada. What will this new channel show to get viewers? Are most shows not already shown on existing Canadian kids channels and have deals in place with companies?

...They're rebranding Comedy Gold as that WOW channel? Didn't it used to be a TV Land Canada or something?

No offense to anyone having hopes for the channel, but I think rebranding an adult-oriented comedy channel to a kids one is a really bad idea.

I skimmed through an article on Kidscreen, but basically this is a good thing as it's another outlet for third-party production studios to pitch their content to, not to mention this gives Frederator and its parent company a chance to produce full length TV shows for the market which can then be sold globally, or in the US on linear channels or any SVOD platform.

Comedy Gold only airs about 4 shows. Very few people will care when it's gone.

Now that you mentioned that, good riddance to Comedy Gold.

This is the entirety of Comedy Gold's show lineup:

    - Comedy Bang! Bang!
    - Everybody Hates Chris
    - Comedy Now!
    - The Jim Gaffigan Show
    - Impastor
    - Corner Gas
    - Spun Out
    - The First Family
    - Mr. Box Office
    - Community

It more than 4, but not a whole lot for a channel that airs 24/7 and doesn't run movies or TV specials. You'll notice that while these shows are old, none of them are old enough for the channel's original intent.

It's OK to see Comedy Gold go, given the limited output @Takao mentioned. But I don't know what exactly will this channel show. The market seems to be full, so it must be something along the lines of Primo TV.

Probably one of these few things

    1) Old shows from other networks that don't air in Canada anymore

    2) Local stuff

    3) Acquisitions/imported shows (If they actually do that, I hope they don't show any local stuff from India because kids might get hooked on it, it will come to the rest of the world, and every kids channel schedule in the world will be bad)

I wouldn't be surprised if it was only a few shows, I mean Corus & DHX Media have The Big Three (Nick, Disney and CN) and DreamWorks respectively, WOW only has a few shows they own that aren't currently airing by those two.

We won't know for sure until details for the channel have been released.

Even Comedy Gold's website seems to be un cared about. I guess Bell would rather focus on The Comedy Network. Will be interesting to see what they do since they have some tough competition.

If the CRTC didn't require channels host a publicly accessible schedule they probably wouldn't even have a website.

From what it look like it seem that what the channel will show are stuff from Channel Frederator, Cartoon Hangover/ Select (excluding Bravest Warriors due to Nelvana) and stuff Mainframe and Rainmaker own (excluding Reboot: The Guardian Code due to YTV).
Also it was confirmed very early on that the shows would be shown on CraveTV.

Looks kinda surprising for a kids channel. The target might be broader. In the past, most European kids channels were aimed at kids 6-14, now they're limited to kids 6-10. New channels seem to target pre-schoolers.
