    You... won't... believe... THIS!

Warner Archive has finally listened to us regarding a comprehensive Looney Tunes-related DVD set!

This is titled Porky Pig 101. It contains all 99 of the character's grayscale appearances from 1935 to 1943, plus the two Merrie Melodies in color he appeared in during this period (1935's I Haven't Got a Hat and 1939's Old Glory).

Mark your calendars for September 19!

    ~Ben

Most shorts are double dips as we know, but who else - maybe WB remastered them once again?

Plus here's the list of already released on DVD shorts (so WB may have saved money in remastering in their worse colors):
    1. I Haven't Got a Hat, 1935 (MM/GCV3D3)
    2. Country Mouse, 1935 (MM/CJ: MC)* - unrestored, but already released on DVD
    3. Gold Diggers of '49, 1935 (LT/GCV5D4)
    4. Little Beau Porky, 1936 (LT/GCV4D2)
    5. Porky's Poultry Plant, 1936 (LT/GCV4D2)
    6. Porky in the North Woods, 1936 (LT/GCV4D2)

As I already added on the @PinkiePie97's topic about this release, 36 PP (counting B/W and color) shorts were already released on their WB DVD/Blu-Ray releases, so 1/3 of the release are double dips.

Same here. I sent a thanks message to Jerry Beck for that post.

47 dollars is a bit pricy but worth it, I'll definitely pick it up.

I kinda wish they added the Daffy B&Ws as bonus but whatever...

I also imagine that these will presented the way they were when they first came out, "because to do otherwise would be to pretend as though [certain..."imperfections"] didn't exist, which would be just as bad as condoning them"....

That's great news! According to animationscoop.com, copies purchased at WBShop.com will be traditionnal pressed discs, while, if I'm correct, copies purchased on other sites will be DVD-Rs. Hopefully it will get released in other countries.

In fairness Daffy will likely get his own DVD sets if Porky's sell well, not to mention how much of Daffy's filmography intertwines into Porky's (should they get to the second DVD set, nearly all of it will be Daffy shorts).

It is nice to see Porky get some love. Surprised they didn't take the predictable route of charting Bugs' shorts first.

I think this is the right step... that would mean there is still hope for the Censored 11!

I am still wondering if, should Porky Pig 101 sell reasonably, there will be an Egghead to Elmer Fudd-related DVD set, which would contain:
    1. Egghead Rides Again
    2. Little Red Walking Hood
    3. Daffy Duck and Egghead
    4. The Isle of Pingo Pongo
    5. Cinderella Meets Fella
    6. A-Lad-In Bagdad
    7. A Feud There Was (not only the first short to have the first use of the name "Elmer Fudd" but also marks the debut of the man who voiced the real version of the character by that name who properly appeared in 1940: Arthur Q. Bryan; although, when singing, Roy Rogers is doing that)
    8. Johnny Smith and Poker-Huntas
    9. Count Me Out
    10. Hamateur Night
    11. A Day at the Zoo
    12. Believe It Or Else
    13. Hare-um Scare-um ("John Sourpuss")
    14. Elmer's Candid Camera
    15. Confederate Honey
    16. The Hardship of Miles Standish
    17. A Wild Hare (Bugs Bunny's proper debut)
    18. Good Night, Elmer
    19. Elmer's Pet Rabbit (first cartoon where Bugs Bunny is given due credit)
    20. The Wabbit Who Came to Supper
    21. Fresh Hare
    22. The Hare-Brained Hypnotist
    23. To Duck... Or Not to Duck
    24. A Corny Concerto
    25. An Itch in Time
    26. The Old Grey Hare
    27. The Stupid Cupid
    28. Stage Door Cartoon
    29. The Unruly Hare
    30. Hare Tonic
    31. Hare Remover
    32. The Big Snooze
    33. Easter Yeggs
    34. A Pest in the House
    35. Slick Hare
    36. What Makes Daffy Duck?
The problem is: where would I stop this collection?

Oh, so more shorts finally are coming to DVD after all. We need to show as much support for this release as possible, and buy it, so that this can pave the way for future DVD releases with new-to-DVD shorts.

And better yet, I also envision them releasing a set of the first five years' worth of the Technicolor (Merrie Melodies) cartoons from 1934-1939.

Turns out there's a lot of problems with quality of the set (info from a buyer at Looney Tunes Wiki):

    • "Fish Tales" does not begin with the shield zooming in and still has "The Merry-go-Round Broke Down" over its opening titles, and an abrupt skip in the music track from the opening card cue to the iris-out when Porky is carrying the fishing rod.
    • "Westward Whoa" has a strange editing error as well: it begins with the 1939-1940 variant of "The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down" but segways into the title card music before it finishes! (note the difference in audio quality)
    • Near the very end of "Shanghaied Shipmates", where the crew is whipping the villain swimming in the ocean, I noticed two glitchy frames where random squares are on the screen. I don't know if I got a bad disc or not, since my disc had absolutely no scratches.
    • "Porky the Wrestler" still has that abrupt cut (see "Censorship"). The edit is clearly physical.

    • "Notes to You" uses the 1939-1940 variant of "The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down".

    • "Confusions of a Nutzy Spy" ends with the 1936-1937 Looney Tunes closing title with the 1937-1938 ending theme playing over it ("T-t-t-that's all Folks!" is cut out)

    • "Porky's Prize Pony" starts off with the 1939-1940 opening theme before cutting to the 1941 one.

There's also a slight bit of cropping going on with some of the new video transfers. It's nothing major, but bits of text at the edges of the screen are ever-so-slightly cropped off. You can see what I mean with the title card of "It's an Ill Wind". Note that the edges of the quote marks are slightly cut off:

    Compared to the old print:

This has been reported elsewhere, including by Thad Komorowski (who's incredibly upset): http://www.whataboutthad.com/2017/09/22/the-death-of-looney-tunes-on-home-video/
