I honestly didn't see this one coming.

Warner Home Video is releasing Tom and Jerry: The Gene Deitch Collection on June 2nd. It will feature all 13 Deitch shorts remastered, plus two new documentaries.

(hits head) This isn't the Tom & Jerry release we've been waiting for!

...I'll probably still buy it, though. These shorts are so strange that they're never boring. Plus I'm intrigued by what'll be said in the two documentaries.

Gene Deitch, who is still alive at age 90, is involved in this, apparently interviewed. It'd be neat to hear his side of the story.

Tom's arm is awfully short on that box cover.

In fairness, the drawings were always wonky in the Deitch shorts anyway, so it's fitting.

*in that same creepy voice Tom used*
    "DON'T YOU BELIEVE IT."

At least it doesn't look like it'll include "Tom's Basement" :D
I might get this. Hey, I've already got most of the Rudy Larriva Road Runner cartoons on DVD, and those I find similar to these Gene Deitch cartoons.
Though I do wish these had "ENDUT! HOCH HECH!" at the end of them :p

I say "Carmen Get It" alone makes the set worth getting.

Release cartoons where Tom is horribly abused and complete with bad quality but not golden collection 2?! Good grief - to my opinion these shorts do not deserve a DVD release at all!

The heck with these shorts, man. I know the Chuck Jones shorts don't get much love, neither - but I'll marathon them anyday over this trash.. If only because I actually like those, even though what came before THEM is far superior!

I'm no nostalgia fanatic, neither. I'm just telling it like it is from my experience...

From what I've heard, Gene Deitch didn't even like Tom and Jerry and it shows. Leaving this out of my collection.

I have seen the Gene Dietch produced Tom and Jerry cartoon "The Tom and Jerry Cartoon Kit" with narration and with no narriation.

Now I hope by 2016 Warner Bros. releases on DVD the 1980 Filmation produced Tom and Jerry Comedy Show complete series next.

Is this a trend we're running into? Seriously, it's not okay to release shorts with some potential racism clips but it's perfectly fine to release shorts where there's a horribly abusive owner that shoves a shaken bottle of soda into Tom's mouth and another part where the owner slams a burning grill into Tom? I think that's a horrible idea.

Like I said, these cartoons they're putting on DVD should've gone with the 1967 vault fire for the greater good. Not to hurt anyone's feelings but I don't even know a single individual that enjoys these 13 bad shorts.

Dude, just don't buy the DVD, then. No one's forcing you to watch, or even acknowledge those cartoons. Ranting about them isn't going to accomplish anything.

Same here... I'm more interested in getting Big Hero 6 and The Incredibles (at last.....) on DVD right now.

I prefer Gene Deitch over Chuck Jones. A red-headed fat guy punching Tom in the face is much funnier than Tom and Jerry flying in space.

Well it's no Golden Collection volume 2. I've never cared for this era (or the chuck jones era) but if I can find this for like 15$ I may pick it up for the special features alone. Also I hope this doesn't mean the golden collection is dead forever now because I hear they were eventually going to include these.

What is considered to be the worst cartoon on this set?
I figured if I can watch that and not hate it, I may get the DVD

For some, that might be the entire set. ;)

I'm still shocked these particular shorts saw the light of day on DVD, but I guess there is an audience out there.
