Welcome to the news and discussion thread for the US feed of SYFY (formerly The Sci-Fi Channel), where we discuss things about the channel's schedule, upcoming events led by the channel, new episodes/premieres of SYFY original programming and ways in which the channel can improve.

I've noticed that this channel doesn't really have a presence on this website and decided to start a thread focusing on it. Also, since there aren't many places to talk about this channel and its shows, maybe this can be one of those.

The channel just reached 25 years old just a few days ago (on September 24th).

Much like Cartoon Network seems to be doing, I don't think Syfy did anything to celebrate this event.

Looking at that schedule, they still air way too many movies nowadays. Primetime next week from Monday to Wednesday is just movies. I guess next Thursday night is when the next season of their TV shows start....

They actually aired reruns of 2004's Battlestar Galactica on the weekend of their anniversary (September 22 - September 24), but that's it.

    They could have aired:

    A Twilight Zone Marathon

The original Star Wars trilogy ("A New Hope" was the first thing that aired when the channel premiered in 1992)

    Episodes of Farscape or Stargate-SG1

Have an anime film festivals like they used to do in the 90's.

A classic Godzilla movie marathon (the 60's and 70's material) or a "Planet of the Apes" marathon.

Aired original Star Trek episodes, or episodes of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, or episodes of The Incredible Hulk, Quantum Leap, or the Bionic Woman.

Aired some of the classic retro bumpers (from the 90's and from the 00's).

    Just a missed opportunity.

yeah, I do kind of wish they put more effort into their quarter-century celebration.

Random morning marathon of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation next Friday. That is definitely not science fiction.

They air marathons of that show at least once every week. They still have a lot of things to fix if they want to be a science fiction channel again.
