The words "inventive" and "masterful" don't exactly come to mind when I think of Sword Art Online.
The right staff of writers should be able to iron out some of the story's wrinkles. But they're going to need a pretty big iron.
Five bucks says this goes to Freeform or MTV and is immediately forgotten.
Probably going to use cheap effects as well, I think that because from anime to live action it has happened, so its bound to happen here as well.
Be hilarious if it went on HBO.
I aspect terrible blue screens everywhere
I don't expect this to ever go into production. Remember the live action TV adaptations of Monster and Noir? Both died in pre-production despite being far better material for this kind of media. Anime movies fair a little better when getting off the ground (GitS, Death Note), but American TV seems to be poisoned ground.
And as others have stated above, it is for the best in this case. Sword Art Online was massively overrated and I can't think of what a live action version could add to the story. I'd sooner adapt Fullmetal Alchemist instead of this schlock, even if it ended up looking horrible.
Will believe it when I see it. I'm still waiting on the Witch Hunter Robin TV series.
Netflix picked it up.
Also, the main leads will be played by Asian actors.
I'll be eager to watch it.
With detached amusement.
I guess it makes sense that Netflix would pick it up since it has the anime's, though hopefully this works out better then their last live-action adaption of an anime...
It's cool that they're keeping Kirito and Asuna as Asian, though I'm curious if that means they'll keep the origins of their usernames intact.
I can see why Netflix would pick it up, seems like a good choice.
As for the cast, I hope they blend well with the characters, I really look forward to see how they portray them.
The writer thinks Klein is a white American for some reason, so I don't have a ton of faith in it.
