Episode #50 is directed and storyboarded by Ogawa Kouji with Tate Naoki acting as his animation supervisor. That must be the final battle. Episode #51 is directed by Mikami Masato with Series Director Komura Toshi'aki providing the storboard. Ishikawa Osamu is acting as animation supervisor, so it doesn't seem to be a big very important episode.

    Episode #49

Disk Wars: Avengers Episode #49 - Animator's Corner

The presence of such a twenty-seven key animators and three sub-contracting studios leads me to think each of the three animation supervisors are from said sub-contracting studios. I can't tell if the heightened number of key animators is because this episode is hideously rushed or if because Series Director Komura Toshi'aki was able to wrangled up a higher number of staff than usual to increase the quality of the usual episode.

The storyboard from Episode Director Iwamoto Yasuo was...really nothing special. Those layouts during the scenes of Dormmamu speaking to the citizens of Earth were simply atrocious. Perhaps that was to make things easy for bad animators?

Doctor Strange gives the lowdown on Dormmamu to the Avengers and Fury. Doctor Akatsuki arrives on the scene and hooks Fury up to a machine. Fury has a bio-code installed in him that allows him to D-Smash, too. This is a special D-Smash that releases the Avengers and the second heroes from the DISKs completely!

Doctor Akatsuki tells Akira and the others they can't go out to fight. Captain American tries to defend their rights, but the good doctor sticks firm. The kids are forced to return to their normal lives while the Avengers return to their usual activities as heroes. During lunch the Chris and the others overhear other students talking smack about Cap and Tony. Hikaru holds Chris back before he can instigate a fight. Akira picks the fight himself.

Later, Akira watches Tony on a news program on his phone, alone at their usual sunset-watching spot. Tony shows up in his casual gear and the two go on a date. No, no, it's not like that, you letches. Doctor Akatsuki explains the situation with the bio-codes to Chris and the others in narration. Chris is fed up with Akatsuki not understanding their feelings. After all, they spent all this time risking their lives alongside the others. Now they're just being asked to return to their normal lives. It's the ultimate wound to their pride.

The kids finally accept their fate and allow the bio-codes to be removed. SHIELD soldiers try to arrest the Avengers in public by order of the World Security Council. The kids see this on TV an go to them to support them. Fury calls off the arrest after Maria Hill refuses to arrest him and remove him from power, too. Together, the Avengers and Akira and the others decide to face Dormammu and Loki in the Dark Dimension.

    Episode #50

Disk Wars: Avengers Episode #50 - Animator's Corner

Well, damn. I thought for sure Shida Naotoshi worked on Episode #50. I guess he's doing the grand finale in Episode #51? Character Designer Tate Naoki was the animation supervisor and a key animator, something I had been looking forward to. Whenever Tate leads an episode the animation is always very loose and well-timed. He has a flair for the dramatic. Even still shots have very smooth character body language. I noticed that Dormmamu seemed to be drawn with a bit more of a charred flair, like how Kameda Yoshimichi incorporates into his fire effect animation. It really gives off the impression that Dormmamu is a brush painting of some sort.

Tate had to have handled the first fight scene with War Machine. The smoke effects were very pleasant on the eyes. All of the animation benefits from Tate's quirky drawings, even the timing of the weaker key animators is improved to have a nice ring to it. There's a funny scene where Tony and Doctor Akatsuki are in a pissing match and the way Akatsuki moves his head toward the camera is a lot of fun to watch. That's what makes timing so important! It defines the personality of the scene. There was lot of nice bits thanks to Tate, so it's definitely nice to see him go out on a winner.

Episode Director Ogawa Kouji killed it with his storyboard, too. Teaming him up with Tate was a nice touch, especially given the dark atmosphere Tate tends to bring to his episodes.

Dormmamu's forces attack the helicarrier. Rhodey and the second heroes hold off the enemy while the Avengers guard the bridge. Doctor Strange powers up a magical barrier that will protect the helicarrier and destroy the forces that have already invaded. Loki invades the helicarrier in disguise and begins planting seeds of doubt in the SHIELD soldiers. Akira and the others trick Loki into reveal himself in a live broadcast to SHIELD. With everyone's fighting spirit restored the battle intensifies. Loki summons powered up Mighty Ones from DISKs that defeat the second heroes. One of them even blasts Doctor Strange, thus lowering the barrier around the helicarrier. Doctor Akatsuki and Hank's cannon is ready in time and it destroys the Dark Gate. Dormmamu is also weakened by the cannon blast, so Loki D-Secures him!

Episode #51 preview!! Shida Naotoshi kicks some rear next week!

    Episode #51 (END)

Disk Wars: Avengers - Animator's Corner

Previously an Assistant Episode Director for Disk Wars: Avengers, Mikami Masato received the credit of enshutsu for this final episode alongside Series Director Komura Toshi'aki, who most likely did the storyboard. Mikami was previously episode director of Saint Seiya Omega Episode #95 but returned to an assistant role for the majority of Disk Wars: Avengers, including Episode #51.

Shida Naotoshi and Kuroyanagi Kenji make their final contributions to the series.

Animation Supervisor Ishikawa Osamu didn't do much in the way of correcting key animation. The episodes looks pretty bad outside of a few important cuts. This is what we get for poor planning, I guess.

Loki uses a device to transfer the power of the Dormmamu DISK to him. Filled with great new strength the final battle begins! Loki sends the Guardians of the Galaxy into free fall before landing on the helicarrier. Thor and the Avengers confront Loki in glorious Shida Naotoshi fashion. Shida didn't have very many sheets to work with, however. Nevertheless the key animation drawings are definitely some of his best. Captain America and Loki look incredibly powerful thanks to the level of detail Shida put into his drawings.

With the Avengers on the ropes Fury returns the Build Up Plates to Akira and the others. With their Bio Codes restored they lend their power to the Avengers through the Build Up Armors. Loki takes the licking but keeps up ticking. Loki blasts away a DISK Iron Man was going to use to secure him in, proving Loki's power up is one mean power up! With the Avengers floored by Loki's follow up assault, Black Widow and Hawkeye attack Loki. Giant Man lends a hand, too! Loki escaped Giant Man's attack and blasts him good. Iron Man grabs Loki, flies him into orbit, then flies him straight into the ground on Tech Isle Toukyou. Tony's armor is at its limit thanks to crashing himself and Loki, but Loki is not!

Loki prepares to finish the immobile Iron Man off but is stopped by Silver Samurai and Mandarin. Akira para-dives out of the Avengers jet with the Kree Mact. Loki sends hundreds of Mighty Ones to stop Akira and take the Kree Mact. Spider-Man, Blade and the Guardians of the Galaxy pave the way for Akira to reach Tony. This scene is actually rather well staged, so I'm thinking it was Kuroyanagi Kenji's work. Akira tosses the Kree Mact into Tony's chest piece. Tony becomes powered up by merging with the Kree Mact. With his strength restored, Tony uses his Ultimate Uni-Beam to send Loki flying.

Loki crashes back onto the island, finally exhausted. Akira tries to D-Secure Loki, but Loki summons a horde of Mighty Ones to act as a shield. Everyone shows up on the scene and uses a DISK each to seal the Mighty Ones surrounding Loki. The gang tells Loki that what he lacked was a strong heart. Loki shows indignation to this as he is sealed away for good.

Akira bids a tearful goodbye to Tony. During the epilogue Akira explains in narration what happened to everyone after they parted ways. One day during school a tap on the classroom window disturbs Akira from his work. It's Iron Man! Holding a DISK in hand, Iron Man tells Akira he needs his power once more for a battle! With tears in his eyes, Akira agrees!

    THE END.

I'll post screen captures when I can.

Well that sounds like it was a blast. Been awhile since I've seen a series reach 51 eps.

It was fun. It had a lot more high-quality action animation than Toei Animation series have had recently thanks to regular doses of Shida Naotoshi, Tate Naoki and Kuroyanagi Kenji. The story did seem to suffer from some ill planning in a few spots and the major fights never did get a whole lot of good animation for the finishing blows, though. Disney should have planned a bit better so that more time could be spent on each episode.

They are the only member of the production committee. 製作 (Seisaku; production, these are the member of the production committee) is credited only to ウォルト・ディズニー・ジャパン (Walt Disney Japan). On typical Toei Animation series that credit is held by the broadcast network and Toei Animation. For example, Majin Bone credits Production to TV Toukyou, Dentsu (an advertising firm) and Toei Animtion. アニメーション制作 is still credited to Toei Animation, just like with all other Toei Animation series, though. All in all, this as definitely majorly funded by Disney, meaning it's up to them to make sure they understand the industry and how their money is being invested in it. If a schmuck on the internet can learn these things for fun somebody paid to do a job can learn said things for their job, too. :p

And it sounds like Matthew Mercer is back as Iron Man.

I'll probably check the dubbed version, once it comes out. I only watched the first few episodes of this show and then kind of gave up on it.

Wow, They're actually dubbing Disk Wars! And here I'd been resigned to the idea that we'd never see it outside Japan. This is awesome :D.

Hope it starts airing on Disney XD North America as soon as possible ;).

Also, I'm surprised they kept the Japanese names. The Doraemon dub had me expecting the kids would get new names :p.

    As far as the voices:

    - Iron Man is Matthew Mercer again, as pointed out by Troy Trodoon.

    - Roger Craig Smith is definitely still Cap.

    - Travis Willingham is still Thor.

    - Macattack has it, that's definitely Crispin Freeman as Loki, which is surprising since I would've thought Troy Baker as a shoe-in to dub him over...I wonder if it had something to do with the studio involved in dubbing Disk Wars? That also means he's possibly not going to be Hawkeye either.

    - I'm not sure if Drake Bell is reprising Spider-Man...it kinda sounds like him, but the voice sounds way more experienced and...mature, I guess, compared to how Bell's Spidey usually sounds. Could be the material and how he's being directed, but I'm not sure. For a second I thought it could be James Arnold Taylor, and he's voiced Spider-Man before, but I think it would've been more noticeable if it were him.

Which just leaves Wasp and Hulk, though while I'd be a little shocked if the latter isn't Fred Tatasciore again, I'm curious to see who they'll get for Wasp. It's not like she has a current animated counterpart in the MAU to draw a voice from, but this seems like the perfect opportunity to bring back Colleen O'Shaughnessey :).

Most likely they gonna get Kari Wahlgren or Laura Bailey to voice her. Just call it a hunch.

Anyway, yeah that's definitely Drake Bell doing Spidey. And I also noticed that the voice for the lead kid is none other than Mona Marshall. I'm inclined to believe also that they may have gotten Kate Higgins to voice Pepper Potts, but another part of me thinks other wise.

Yeah, a part of me did think they might just have Laura Bailey do Wasp since she's already voicing a core Avenger in Assemble, though I also thought they might go for someone different since she's already Black Widow. That said, Laura's incredibly versatile as a VA, so she could probably play both characters effectively if it came down to it :).

And Kari Wahlgren would be pretty awesome too, though I'm really hoping we do get Colleen back ;).

Troy Baker has quit all of his anime roles, including his Persona 4 and Naruto recurring roles. He's bigger than Nolan North in the industry right now, he is one of the rare voice actors who can turn work down if he wants to. He likely did that here.

Fred Tatasciore has done a few anime, and he's been voicing Hulk for over 10 years now. He should be back.

It'd be wonderful if Colleen O'Shaughnessey was brought back for Wasp but somehow I doubt it. Bailey would be a good choice, but she's been turning work down lately too because of Halo 5 and Horizon: Zero Dawn eating her schedule, I doubt she'd even audition for Wasp. Kari Wahlgren would be a good fit.

I don't think that's Kate Higgins as Pepper, I think that's Cindy Robinson, who did the role for the Iron Man anime.

I know about Troy quitting his anime roles because of how popular he's gotten, but I just expected that with his experience and being the "official" Loki voice would mean he'd likely be in this, but obviously that isn't the case for some reason or another...though with Laura, yeah it's not for lack of interest or desire in regards to reprising roles but that she seems pretty busy these days. Though I don't recall Widow having too many appearances on the show so maybe she could make time to record a few lines :)?

Though at least Crispin Freeman is very fitting as Loki ;).

It's kinda funny how Adrian Pasdar is the "official" Iron Man voice but Matthew Mercer has succeeded him as Iron Man in anything anime related, even when the Iron Man Anime was the first time Pasdar ever played Tony :p.

I wonder if we'll see the X-Men anime cast reprise their role for the X-Men arc? Scott Porter would probably be willing to come back, and Steve Blum obviously would .

This is really cool to see. I'm hopeful this might get a quick Disney XD run. The promo seems very much like it was made for the American XD channel (LA dub, same announcer and pushing it as an "Anime version of Avengers") but there was nothing stopping CN from airing PPGZ. I figure either way the episodes will make their way online and I can watch it. Really glad I waited.
