Remember back when Adult Swim announced two new seasons of FLCL (Fooly Cooly) were now in production and would premiere on Toonami? That was exactly two years ago. What’s taken them so long?

As was reported in March 2016, FLCL has been renewed for two seasons of six episodes each. Today we know more: the first season will be called FLCL Progressive and the second will be named FLCL Alternative. Progressive will air in June 2018, and Alternative will turn up September 2018.

And Haruko is confirmed to be returning! Just see for yourself:

She’s the only familiar face though (unless you count the Vespa as a face). Haruko is the only connective tissue between all three seasons — both Progressive and Alternative will be completely different storylines.

FLCL: Progressive tells the story of 14-year-old Hidomi, her classmate Ide, and two otherworldly beings, “Jinyu” and “Haruha Raharu,” who are determined to unlock their hidden potential. Mixed up in this is an all-powerful force known as “ATOMSK,” a gorgeous vintage car… and a certain Vespa Scooter.

Alternative appears to be named so because they’re going for something completely different. AS says it was made by “young creators who will redefine the meaning of “sequel.”” …No one yet knows what that means. All the clips from the promo trailer appear to be from Season 2.

The series centers on the misadventures of 17-year-old Kana, a high school junior who spends her days hanging out with her besties, Mossan, Hijiri, and Pets. They live unremarkable lives, until the day a Mecha falls out of the sky, along with a strange woman named “Haruko.” Her plans for Kana and her friends involve the force known as “ATOMSK.” Kana will have to risk everything to decide whether or not to help… like she really has a choice!

Production IG is handling the animation, Katsuyuki Motohiro will serve as chief director of both seasons and Hideto Iwai created the script for both. In addition, Japanese rock band the pillows has returned to score both seasons.

Ready or not, here she comes, hitting like a guitar to the face: FLCL comes back starting this June on Toonami.
