While it may not be a surprise that DC went back to the classic Dark Knight books and decided to end the series with a true third novel, it is interesting to see just how far they're going to make sure that this is not only a classic, but pays tribute to Batman himself.
The official title for the upcoming story is The Dark Knight III: The Master Race, and though details are still scarce, we do know DC is going all in on this.
"We went into this knowing that we had to give fans more," said Co-Publishers Dan DiDio and Jim Lee in DC's press release. "We're pulling out all the stops to deliver an amazing conclusion to this exciting body of work. We hope it inspires the next generation of writers and artists, the way it has already inspired us."
Kubert said, "Frank Miller and Brian Azzarello have crafted such an incredible story for DKIII, as I am truly honored to be associated with them, this project, and Klaus Janson. We, along with the fans, are in for a great ride!"
Aside from the main story, there will also be a 16-page mini "Dark Knight universe" story in each issue, one that will feature different teams telling different Batman stories in the Dark Knight universe.
Are you excited for this? Cause...I am! The series will start "Fall 2015" and will run monthly for eight issues.
