The Hollywood Reporter reports that actress and author Carrie Fisher died on Tuesday from complications of a heart attack she suffered four days earlier on a flight from London to Los Angeles. She was 60. Ms. Fisher was the daughter of actress Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher. The couple divorced when Carrie was two when Eddie Fisher was dating Elizabeth Taylor. Her show business premiere was at the age of 15, when she joined her mother on stage in the Broadway musical Irene.

Ms. Fisher was best known to fans as Princess Leia Organa in the 1977 box office smash Star Wars, and the sequels The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and last year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In addition to those films, Fisher appeared in Shampoo, The Blues Brothers, Hannah and Her Sisters, The ‘Burbs, When Harry Met Sally, Scream 3, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, and Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. Her TV appearances include guest spots on 30 Rock, Smallville, Laverne & Shirley, Sex and the City, and Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce.

Ms. Fisher was also best known as Angela, Peter Griffin’s boss at the Pawtucket Patriot brewery on Family Guy.

In addition to her on-screen credits, Ms. Fisher was also an acclaimed best-selling author. Her novel Postcards From the Edge was a fictionalized version of her own life, becoming a film in 1990 for which she also wrote the screenplay. Her other books include the memoirs Wishful Drinking, Shockaholic, and her most recent, The Princess Diarist, where she revealed that she had an affair with Harrison Ford during the filming of the first Star Wars movie.

Ms. Fisher is survived by her brother Todd, two half-sisters Joely and Tricia Leigh, and a daughter, Scream Queens actress Billie Lourd, whose father is CAA Co-Chairman Bryan Lourd.
