Since Street Fighter V has been out for quite a while, where’s Blanka been hiding all that time? None of us know, but a newly released trailer from Capcom reveals our nation’s Blanka-less drought is at an end. How soon will the green giant come roaring into the game?
The trailer, which depicts Blanka doing typical Blanka stuff, isn’t what’s getting people hyped about this. It’s the screenshot duplicated above, from something shown nowhere in the trailer yet described in Capcom’s official copy:
In SFV: AE, Blanka is living peacefully with his mother, and has adapted well to being introduced back into society. One day, a suspicious salesman approaches him and offers a way to make Blanka famous by mass producing a doll made in Blanka’s likeness. Will it work? Find out in his character story mode!
So the unanswered question is: are we looking at a magical moving doll that can be summoned to fight on Blanka’s behalf, or did Blanka just get in a giant stupid costume of himself before leaping into battle? Fans have come to a general agreement on social media that if there’s a way to make Blanka look like this all the time, he would become their new main instantly. We just don’t know yet. We’re really hoping he’s in there.
All will be revealed when Blanka gets added to Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition on February 20.
By the way, for those who vaguely remember “BLANKA’S GONNA BONK YA” being spoken somewhere but can’t place it, the phrase comes from a Street Fighter action figure commercial from 1993, which contains other gems like “Vile GUILE and you’ll come out in STYLE!”
