"Ben and Izzy" Tries to Mend US-Middle East Bridges
An article in the New York Times covers Ben and Izzy, a new CGI-animated series from Jordanian media company Rubicon, which focuses on the sometimes rocky friendship between two 11-year-old boys, one Arab and one American (registration required). The series itself crosses borders in many ways, being led by Jordanian Randa Ayoubi and American David Pritchard, with some funding coming from Jordan’s King Abdullah II Fund for Development. King Abdullah himself has been involved in the production, being shown drafts of scripts and rough animation and providing some wise advice to the producers (“Make sure it’s funny”).
The series is currently being shopped around to several American broadcasters, including Cartoon Network, Discovery Kids, and PBS.
