What’s that big noise coming from the Big Easy? It’s the Call of Duty World League, holding its second open event at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. What can we expect this year?
Opening matches will take place today through Sunday. The top four teams from tonight’s competition will join pool play tomorrow. Whoever wins there will move up to compete on Sunday in the championship bracket, with the chance to win $200,000 and the title of CWL New Orleans Open Champion. Winners from this competition will move up to the CWL Pro League, which this year is being held at the MLG Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The Pro League games begin January 23.
“This season of the CWL already has seen tremendous growth, matching last season’s overall number of online participants in the first month of the new season. We cannot wait for the action to begin this weekend with our visit to New Orleans,” said Call of Duty esports director Kevin Flynn. “CWL New Orleans is an important event for the overall 2018 Call of Duty World League season. In addition to the prize purse at stake, the results at this open event also will help determine the teams we see during our CWL Pro League series, which begins later this month.”
If you’re in the New Orleans area, tickets are $59.99 (plus tax). There’s also a Premium Pass for $89.99 that includes an event t-shirt and one month of MLG GameBattles Premium. For the big spenders, a $299.99 VIP ticket grants you an event t-shirt, event jacket, one-hour early entrance to the venue, access to the VIP Lounge and more.
But for everyone else, viewing the event online is free. Keep your browser pointed at http://cod.majorleaguegaming.com for live broadcasts from the Call of Duty World League.
