Somebody will be joining Maude Flanders as the next animated character to be killed off on “The Simpsons” this season. Producer Al Jean would not reveal the name of the character, only a clue – that the actor playing that character won an Emmy award for playing that character – though this narrows it down to just about everybody as the show has been on the air for 25 seasons and Emmy awards have been won 27 times by nine voice actors in that time span. Those nine actors include the entire regular cast who voice multiple characters each season. Oddsmakers in the UK have already placed odds on who gets knocked off this season and, predictably, Grandpa Simpson is the leaderboard favorite at 5/2 while Homer is the longshot at 200-to-1.
Maude Flanders –wife of Homer’s next door neighbor, Ned – was the last character to meet her doom in 2000 when Homer stooped down to pick up a bobby pin and Marge was hit by a barrage of t-shirts fired from a t-shirt cannon, knocking her off the grandstand at the Springfield Speedway and falling to her death.
