Michael Crichton’s 1973 sci-fi movie tale of a fantasy robot theme park gone astray will get rebooted as an HBO series with Anthony Hopkins and Evan Rachel Wood in the lead roles. Crichton passed away in 2008 but was the writer of several sci-fi classics beginning with “The Andromeda Strain” and going throughout the “Jurassic Park” franchise. In “Westworld”, he depicts a fantasy camp gone wrong as wealthy people on holiday select a wild west theme for their fantasy robot theme park adventure – only to have a robot malfunction and go rogue. The HBO series – being produced by JJ Abrams – will expand that concept to the world’s entire existence being manipulated by artificial intelligence madness in a “Stepford Wives”-like manner.
HBO’s “Westworld” TV series reboot has been approved for a pilot episode which is expected to air in 2015.
