"We Are Family" Premieres in San Francisco School
The video that sparked a controversy about SpongeBob SquarePants sexual orientation will have its schoolyard premiere this Thursday in San Francisco, video producers say.
The “We Are Family” DVD and lesson, which will be presented at Jean Parker Elementary School, includes a video of various children’s characters, including Barney, Arthur, Big Bird, Jimmy Neutron and SpongeBob SquarePants, singing the disco song “We Are Family” as part of a lesson plan designed to promote tolerance and diversity. The lesson materials have been criticized by conservative Christian groups for including a pledge that makes reference to sexual orientation.
A version of the music video will air on Nickelodeon and Disney Channel on March 11.
