Turkey
Jerky
The
inevitable Thanksgiving episode begins with the
Pilgrims landing on Plymouth Rock--literally.
It's time for the first Thanksgiving feast, but
none of the Pilgrims can decide what to serve.
Enter Miles Standish, who declares they shall
eateth of the native bird...the turkey.
Miles
goes out hunting with his musket and finds a
rather goofy turkey that normally wouldn't have
stood a chance--if it hadn't been the pet of the
Warners, who are in this cartoon as Native
Americans. One "marital dispute" with
Dot, one psychiatric evaluation and one scene
where they literally steal the scenery later,
Miles relents to a vegetarian Thanksgiving. Not
only that, the Warners have driven him so crazy
that from this point on, he thinks he is a
turkey.
Now
we know why Priscilla Mullins married John Alden
instead.
Cameos:
Slappy Squrrel, Skippy Squirrel, Elmer Fudd.
Wild
Blue Yonder
Nicholas Hollander wrote this one-shot about a
mother bluebird who leaves her nest for one
minute to gather food. Within that minute, one of
the chicks hatch with the voice of young Cody
Ruegger, an F-14 stealth jet flies over the tree,
and the baby mistakes it for his mom. The mistake
lasts for the next six minutes. Not as
pratfall-laden as one might think--as with most
one-shots on this show, this cartoon is just here
to be cute.
The
little blue bird returns in "My Mother the
Squirrel," from season 3.

Miles:
I used to haveth a hamster. I calledeth him
'Petey Pajamas.' I lovedeth him so. I tooketh him
to bed with me every night, you know."
Yakko: "GOODNIGHT EVERYBODY!"
Miles:
"Now give me the bird!"
Yakko: "We'd love to, really, but the Fox
Censors won't allow it."

SAG
stands for the Screen Actors Guild. Paying
members of the acting community can, among other
services, receive a pension plan. When you start
to sag, it's time for SAG.

"Turkey
Jerky" is a solid Season 1 cartoon with many
unexpected gags and laffs, as well as that
usually-amazing TMS animation. About as good as
I've ever seen from a Thanksgiving episode.
As
for "Wind Blue Yonder," is it cute? You
bet it is. But is it
funny?........not so much.

WE'RE
ANIMAN-E, TOTALLY INSANE-Y: Eisenhower,
Mamie.
WHEEL OF MORALITY: Don't eat
with your mouth full.
KATHRYN PAGE: Doormat.
ENDING TOWER GAG: "Set
three extra places...WE'RE COMING OVER FOR
DINNER!"
