Watch Ms. Marvel Go In This Avengers: Secret Wars Clip

by on June 2, 2017

Disney XD’s next Avengers series is set to launch later this month. For the next few days, the network will be releasing clips from the new show, each one highlighting a member of the current team. IGN landed the exclusive on the first clip, which is embedded below.

The previous Avengers series had Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, guest-star in a few episodes, with the hint that much more was one the way. As promised, she will be officially joining the team in Secret Wars! Kamala’s characterization is largely the same here that it is in her comics: she’s a young superhero fan who became a superhero herself, and often isn’t sure she can measure up. That’s made clear in this clip (also, she fights a frog):

So….elephant in the room. Starting with the excellent-looking Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, each subsequent Avengers cartoon has sported cheaper animation than the one before it. At this point, it’s seriously noticeable, and when I first saw this clip I thought it was somebody’s student film project. Sloppy lines, no shading, flat colors, terrible CG, and movement that resembles a rotoscoped Bakshi cartoon from the 70’s. When the Avengers fly it’s a still drawing of the heroes being scaled closer. I haven’t seen animation this bad in a Disney product since Belle’s Magical World.

It’s great that we finally have Ms. Marvel appearing regularly in a TV series, but when those warbly X-Men cartoons from the 90’s wind up looking better than she does, it’s cause for concern.

Avengers: Secret Wars will launch Saturday, June 17 on Disney XD with a two-part, hour-long episode, “Avengers No More.”

Well, at least Marvel hasn't reverted to the days when they'd basically scan in the same drawings used for the comic books, and make everyone's mouths move…at least, not yet.
I myself haven't seen a whole episode of any of the Avengers cartoons produced after Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

I wish you could have written this article more professionally rather than complaining about the animation as if you seemingly needed to vent.

    Damning with faint praise.

You know an article is unprofessionally written when the writer goes off the rails and vents about trivial nonsense. I wish the Marvel Animation Age Twitter didn't do the same thing…
