The Hollywood Reporter states that Warner Bros. is planning an animated feature film to revive The Flintstones, naming Chris Henchy (The Campaign) as the screenwriter and Will Ferrell and Adam McKay as co-executive producers. The Flintstones were a sensation during their initial TV run from 1960 to 1966 and then for decades in syndication, where the “modern Stone Age family” of Fred and Wilma Flintstone and Barney and Betty Rubble engaged in assorted animated sitcom shenanigans. A live-action movie starring John Goodman, Elizabeth Perkins, Rick Moranis, and Rosie O’Donnell was produced in 1994, followed by a much less well-received sequel The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas in 2000. Seth MacFarlane was reported to be working on a revival of the TV show which did not get produced.
The report does not state whether the movie will be hand-drawn or CGI animation and has no release date; it is not known whether this is one of the two “mystery projects” announced by the Warner Animation Group earlier.
