Wall Street Journal Reports on Hub Takeover and Rebranding by Discovery

The Wall Street Journal reports that a long-rumored takeover and rebranding of the Hub Network is about to take place. The joint venture between Discovery and Hasbro has struggled to gain market share in the kids TV network environment dominated by Disney Channel and Nickelodeon, shifting from its original lineup of programming to include other family-oriented programming, movies, and classic sitcom re-runs. Current reports on the still-unfinalized deal state that Discovery will acquire some of Hasbro’s shares in the network and rebrand the Hub as Discovery Family, but Hasbro would retain “a sizable stake” in the network and program the channel from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
