Wall Street Disappointment in DreamWorks Animation Receipts for "Kung Fu Panda 2" DVD and "Puss in Boots" Box Office

by on December 23, 2011

Wall Street analyst Richard Greenfield of BTIG has lowered his expectations for DreamWorks Animation due to lower-than-expected home video sales for Kung Fu Panda 2 and box office receipts for Puss in Boots. Despite heavy promotion and a release date historically strong for top-tier DVD sales, Kung Fu Panda 2 has not topped sales charts, especially in the premium-priced Blu-ray combo pack; Greenfield noted sales charts that put Kung Fu Panda 2 behind The Smurfs at Walmart.com and at #15 in DVD sales and #31 in Blu-ray sales on Amazon.com. Greenfield also added that the estimated $188 million in overseas ticket sales for Puss in Boots is lower than expected, and could point to lowered home video sales for the movie in the future.
