Turner to Pay $2 Million for Marketing Mishap

Turner Broadcasting and marketing agency Interference will pay federal, state, and local agencies $2 million in connection with a marketing stunt gone awry, The New York Times reports.

Half of the money will go to defray costs incurred by the agencies, which closed highways, bridges, and other infrastructure in Boston after mistaking electronic advertisements for Aqua Teen Hunger Force for potential terrorist devices. The other half will take form of “goodwill funds.”

The money will be paid as part of a settlement that will protect the companies from civil or criminal liability by state and local agencies. Turner is paying most of the money.

Criminal charges are still pending against Peter Berdovsky and Sean Stevens, who put up the ads.
