Tokyo Theater to Screen "Stand Alone Complex" Ahead of "Solid State Society" 3D

by on February 15, 2011

If you’ve ever wanted to see Stand Alone Complex on the big screen (and you live in Tokyo), this is your chance.

The large cineplex Shinjuku Wald 9 in Tokyo will be screening all 52 episodes of “Ghost in the Shell: SAC” from Feb. 26 to March 25 as part of a lead-up to the release of the new 3-D theatrical version of the “Solid State Society” OVA. Every Friday and Saturday the theater will screen six episodes of the anime. Meanwhile, the theater’s CAFE OASE will be redone with a GitS: SAC theme, with limited-edition menu items and free promotional coasters.

A few lucky Japanese fans will get the chance to see the new film early at Wald as part of a special “experience event” planned for Feb. 25. The “Perfect Display Midnight Private Screening” will be more than just a movie showing, though — Production I.G. says it’ll be “as though Public Security Section 9 has hacked the multiplex” at Shinjuku’s Wald 9 cinemas in Tokyo. The 1,600 free tickets will be handed out by lottery. The clock was counting down to zero as I typed this, but you may still be able to apply for tickets here (Japanese).

The film version will get a public theatrical release in Japan on March 26. For those with 3-D setups at home, the trailer’s up on GitS:SAC’s YouTube channel in 3-D here. For updates on screening times and other events check the official site (Japanese).
