Tobey Maguire and Fox to Adapt “Cardboard” Graphic Novel

by on September 12, 2012

Variety reports that Fox’s WedgeWorks banner and Tobey Maguire’s production company Material Pictures have optioned the recently-published graphic novel Cardboard by writer/artist Doug TenNapel (Earthworm Jim). The graphic novel centers on an impoverished widower who gives his young son a disappointing birthday gift of a cardboard box. The pair turn the box into a boxer named Bill, who comes to life. Chris Wedge (Ice Age) is reported to be eyeing the director’s chair for the film, and Maguire may have the option to voice a character.
