Tickle U To Feature "Mommy Bar"
To encourage parents to watch its new Tickle U programming bloc alongside their kids, Cartoon Network says the new bloc will feature a “Mommy Bar” carrying humorous subtitles aimed at adults. The bar will also carry cues for show content and length.
The announcement was made as part of the New York City Humor Symposium, during which Cartoon Network executives described the new bloc and shared research showing that 92% of parents think it important to foster a sense of humor in children. Another 60% of parents say they want to improve their own kids’ sense of humor.
“Our review of the research showed that humor is a learned skill: We learn to create it and we learn to appreciate it,” said Alice Cahn, vice president of development and programming for Cartoon Network. “The children who learn those skills well are those who are more even-tempered, tend to lash out less verbally and physically, and have an easier time making friends.”
Cahn said that Tickle U would complement the cognitive skills base of other pre-K networks with programming that views optimism and humor as essential developmental skills.
Tickle U line-up will premiere on Monday, August 22, and air weekdays from 9:00am to 11:00am (ET/PT).
