The Sword Gets An X-Men Edge

by on July 9, 2013

The graphic novel “The Sword” got one step closer to being the next “Hunger Games”-style flick featuring a female action hero when film rights owner Lakeshore Entertainment brought on David Hayter to write the screenplay – Hayter is responsible for the screenplays for “X-Men” [2000], “X2” [2003] and “Watchmen” [2009]. “The Sword” is based on the 24-issue graphic novel by brothers Jonathan and Joshua Luna where paraplegic college student Dara Brighton’s family is murdered and she is left for dead then accidentally finds a magic sword [giving her special powers of speed, strength and healing] and seeks to exact revenge on the three killers [who each control an element – air, water and earth] of her family.

The 24 issues of “The Sword” originally were published between 2007 and 2010.
