South Korean automaker Kia had to do something. They were getting desperate. In a massive hall full of Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches and Mercedes, how would they get the meandering horde of people at the 2012 SEMA Show to take notice of their lowly Kias? How indeed. Ever heard of Aquaman? Okay – maybe not the best example. How about Batman, The Flash and the Green Lantern? Any fanboy or fangirl worth their mint condition comic book collection, framed “Avengers” tickets and realistic Halloween superhero costume knows what we’re talking about – and so does Kia. The automaker had California-based custom specialty shops trick out five of their Kias in superhero themes for the 2012 SEMA [Specialty Equipment Market Association] Show – the auto industry’s annual homage to massive amounts of testosterone. Namely, Kia made five concept cars – cars not likely to see the light of day as production models but which are fun to ogle – representing various superheroes of the famed Justice League.
Their new Justice League line of superhero concept cars include the Green Lantern Soul, the Flash Forte Koup, the Batman Optima, the Cyborg Forte and, proving that Aquaman doesn’t always get the shaft of Neptune – the Aquaman Rio. Each car has their own unique superhero touches with the standouts belonging to the Soul with its Green Lantern logo on the wheels, the Rio with a trunk featuring a set of Aquaman underwater comic scenes and the Cyborg with a console-mounted tablet.
The 2012 SEMA Show runs through November 2, 2012 in Las Vegas and is not open to the public.
