ITV Commissions Ricky Gervais' "Flanimals"

UK network ITV has commissioned a series of Ricky Gervais’ book series Flanimals, C21Media reports. Gervais, most famous for both versions of the comedy series The Office, will write and narrate the series, which focuses on his personally imagined monster creations. The series will be animated via a mix of claymation and CGI.

"Roary the Racing Car" Zooms onto UK Screens

British production company Chapman Entertainment has secured a two channel UK deal for new stop-frame animated pre-school series Roary the Racing Car, C21Media reports. The deal sees the TV rights shared between channel 5 and Nick Jr, with a planned air date of next spring.

"Blanche" Gets Slot on Cartoon Network UK

Cartoon Network UK has picked up rights to Blanche, an animated series about a golf-playing, knitting-loving sheep, c21 Media reports. The VGI Entertainment series will launch later this year.

Entertainment Rights Plans "Postman Pat" Birthday Events

Entertainment Rights will mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of Postman Pat with an official birthday event at Kensington Roof Gardens in early September, World Screen reports. The company will also send the character to tour eleven shopping malls.

Aardman Forms Int'l Sales Division

Aardman Animations has created Aardman International to handle worldwide distribution of the studio’s product, VFXWorld reports. Miles Bullough, currently head of broadcast and development, will head the new division.

BKN Names Runel to London Post

BKN International has named Benoit Runel as the new managing director of its British BKN New Media subsidiary, Finanztreff reports. Runel will oversee sales and marketing as well as development and pre-production at the London-based animation studio. He joins the company from Jetix Europe.

CiTV Picks Up "Captain Mack"

CiTV has commissioned 52 episodes of Captain Mack, a preschool series about a rescue team, from Kickback Media, C21 Media reports.

Wallace and Gromit to Appear at Charity Event

Wallace and Gromit will tour schools on the Isle of Man as part of a “Wrong Trousers” fundraising day, according to the BBC. They will be joined by Yamaha TT racer Guy Martin. (via Animated-News)

CN UK Relaunches Video-On-Demand Service

Cartoon Network UK will relaunch its video-on-demand service on Homechoice as Cartoon Network Now (CN Now), World Screen reports. The service will provide a variety of Cartoon Network titles, including Dexter’s Laboratory, Cow and Chicken, The Powerpuff Girls, My Gym Partner is a Monkey, and Samurai Jack.
