Hybrid Live-Action/CGI "Smurfs" Movie Coming from Columbia/Sony

Variety is reporting that a live-action/CGI-animated Smurfs movie is in the works from Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation. The rights were acquired from Lafig Belgium via Jordan Kerner. Variety is also stating that David Stern and David Weiss, who wrote the second and third Shrek movies, are in negotiations to write the screenplay.

"Blood+" Volume 2 Comes to DVD on June 17, 2008

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that Blood+ volume 2 will be released on DVD on June 17, 2008. The disc will contain the next five episodes of the show, and continues the story of Saya Otonashi and her battle with the immortal Chiropterans. Read the full press release here.

Sony Nabs Int'l DVD Rights to Anchor Bay Catalog

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has picked up international distribution rights to Anchor Bay’s home entertainment catalog, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The deal gives Sony rights to such product as the Hellboy animated movies and Manga Entertainment titles in territories outside the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

"Boondocks" Season Two Hitting DVD in June

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release the second season of The Boondocks to DVD on June 10, Animation Magazine reports. The three-disc set will include thirteen episodes, including two that did not air on Adult Swim. Extras will feature commentary by creator Aaron McGruder and character profiles. It will retail for $49.95.

"Persepolis" Returning to Theaters with English Dub

Sony Pictures Classics will release an English-language version of Persepolis to 100 theaters on April 11, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
