Review: "Big Top Scooby Doo!" This Circus Mystery Gets a Little Hairy For the Scooby Gang

bigtopscooby4

Circuses are supposed to be happy places, but as any kid who has ever been emotionally scarred by a clown knows, it doesn’t take much to flip the switch from bright and sunny to creepy and terrifying. Show them a dark circus at night, or a clown outside of the very narrow range of settings […]

Review: "The Aristocats" Blu-ray - MADE U A STOREE, BUT I EATED IT

thumb-aristocatsbr

The Aristocats is one of the better products of the post-Walt/pre-90′s-Renaissance Disney Animation Studios, carrying a featherweight story largely through charming performances (vocal and animated) and some bouncy, jazzy, catchy musical numbers. The movie was the recipient of a remastered DVD release in 2008, and is one of a slate of films that has just […]

"The Rescuers/The Rescuers Down Under": Half Good, Half Eh

00-rdu-4

This release has been a long time coming. The Rescuers and The Rescuers Down Under have been sorely in need of a re-release, having been out on DVD as long ago as 2003 and 2000, respectively. And with a new video format, it seemed like there was no better time to bring these back into […]

"Akira" Blu-ray: Still Da Bomb After Two Decades

I’ll never forget the first time I saw the 1988 animated feature film Akira. It was Saturday morning on the Sci-Fi Channel, back in the ’90s when that was their timeslot for Japanese anime. While I had somewhat enjoyed my samplings of anime to that point, Akira really impressed and intrigued me. Here was a […]
