by on May 29, 2014

The Hollywood Reporter notes that South Park producer Anne Garefino will receive the AFI’s Franklin J. Schaffner Alumni Medal, which recognizes “the extraordinary creative talents of a graduate of the AFI Conservatory or AFI Directing Workshop for Women who symbolizes the legacy of Franklin Schaffner.” Garefino was a graduate of the AFI class of 1998 and has been the producer for a number of Trey Parker and Matt Stone projects. In addition to working on South Park since 1997 (moving to an executive producer position in 2007), Garefino has also produced the films South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut and Team America: World Police, and the Broadway musical The Book of Mormon.

The award will be given at the AFI Life Achievement Award tribute honoring Jane Fonda at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on June 5, 2014.
