Sony Picture Acquires “Robotech” License; Plans Live-Action Feature

by on March 26, 2015

Variety reports that Sony Pictures has secured rights to the Robotech franchise, with an eye to moving quickly to a live-action feature film adaptation. The project will be overseen at Sony Pictures by Sony Pictures Entertainment Group President Doug Belgrad, Columbia Pictures Production Chief Michael De Luca, and Sony Pictures Vice President of Creative Production Matthew Milam. Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton (300, The Immortals) were named in the report as producers, with Michael Gordon (300, G.I. Joe) named as scriptwriter. Frank Agrama of Harmony Gold will be the executive producer, with Michael Gordon and Jehan Agrama. Leonard B. Rosman and Christy Duran serving as co-producers.

The rights had originally been with Warner Brothers, with Akiva Goldsman and Tobey Maguire attached as producers (with Tobey Maguire attached…only to produce), but the studio never managed to get a film into production.
