Short Notice: Super-Milk Chan’s Gone Bad
Super-Milk Chan is easily the least amount of fun I’ve had watching an animé in recent years. For the uninformed, ADV released this series in a two-disc set; one disc is the straight dub of the Japanese version, while the other is an adapted version for America, complete with behind-the-scene live action bits set at ADV Productions.
I watched the American version, and, it’s sad to say it, but the live-action bits are funnier than the actual show. Milk is a baby who goes on various missions for the President of Everything with her robot and slug friends. Sort of an Aqua Teen Hunger Force vibe, right?
Wrong. ATHF is actually funny to the point where you laugh. I barely cracked a smile at this. It’s much slower, and the humor just fails (“Look, the president just ate something with flies on it. LAUGH ALREADY!”). The live-action bits are rather good, with voice actors running away from fanboys, wondering if another is, well… really wanting to play Batman Forever pinball, and so forth.
I couldn’t even sit through watching this again for the commentary, or give the Japanese version (the one, for some reason, Adult Swim recently acquired) a shot.
Don’t blow your money on this… Williams Street already did.
