Shaggy Voice Actor Casey Kasem Reported Missing

by on May 13, 2014

Fox News reports that a judge ordered an investigation on Monday on the whereabouts of former radio personality Casey Kasem after his wife’s attorney said that he left the country. The court order is the latest news in an ongoing family dispute.

The man who was best known for hosting the original American Top 40 radio show, as well as voicing Shaggy in various Scooby-Doo cartoons and Robin on the Super Friends, is suffering from advanced Parkinson’s disease, can no longer speak, and has been in several medical facilities chosen by his wife, Jean Kasem. Kasem’s daughter Kerri Kasem has sought temporary conservatorship, and was appointed temporary caretaker for her 82 year-old father at the court appearance on Monday. Attorney Craig Marcus, who was in attendance to represent Jean Kasem, told the court that he had did not know where Casey Kasem was, but that he was “no longer in the United States,” which drew stunned protests from three of Kasem’s children. After expressing concern over Marcus’ statement, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Daniel S. Murphy ordered a court investigator along with adult protective services to find out where Kasem is treated and reported back to court. The judge also granted Kerri Kasem’s request for temporary conservatorship and granted access to her father’s medical records┬áthat were sealed from an earlier court order.

The Kasem family dispute started when Kasem’s children (Kerri, Julie, Mouner, and Mike Kasem) complained that their stepmother would not let them see their father. The first case against Jean Kasem was filed by Julie Kasem, but the suit was settled. Kerri Kasem said on Monday the agreement has been breached when her father was moved without them knowing by their stepmother Jean Kasem.
