SDCC2008: Bandai Entertainment Announces Lucky Star Manga, Talks About Honneamise

by on July 25, 2008

Bandai Entertainment representatives Robert Napton and Ken Iyadomi turned out to show off Bandai Entertainment’s big series for 2008. They ran for trailers for Code Geass, Gurren Lagann, Gundam 00, The Gundam SEED Destiny TV Movies Lucky Star. Ghost Slayers Ayashi, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Rocket Girls (well, almost ran it’s trailer – technical difficulties killed that), Ghost in the Shell: 2 Innocence, Sword Of The Stranger, Hayate: The Combat Butler, and Freedom (i.e., pretty much the usual trailer reel for this con season) to a packed and excited panel room.

For many of Bandai’s upcoming titles, they are continuing with their multiple release versions – such the season set, the limited-edition box starter set and standard single volume releases for Geass, the LE volumes with t-shirts for Lucky Star, a double-disc LE with soundtrack and standard edition release for The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, and Blu-ray releases in addition to DVD releases for Ghost in the Shell: 2 Innocence and Sword Of The Stranger. Additionally, they are looking at new media options like iTunes for Gurren Lagann. However, they’re also doing a complete series sub-only boxset the more niche Rocket Girls, a so they aren’t overmarketing series they perceive as more niche either.

Meanwhile, Bandai Entertainment is keeping the Honneamise branding from it’s merger/acquisition of Bandai Visual USA, and it’s commitment to simultaneous releases in North America and Japan, but will also lower prices to a more reasonable price point, at least relative to the Japanese release. The releases will include an English dub in addition to the sub when ever possible as well. First up for re-release is Freedom in a Blu-Ray boxset with a dub and sub, and it’ll be followed by 3 different releases of the Gunbuster and Gunbuster 2 films.

Lastly, they discussed their current manga projects, including 3 different Code Geass manga, the Witchblade manga, and announced the acquisition of the Lucky Star manga, saving the biggest news for last.
