SDCC 2016: There’s More Content Coming To Pokemon Go

by on July 25, 2016

There was a Pokemon Go panel at SDCC this year, and it might have been smaller in another universe where the game didn’t catch on. The presentation was upgraded to Hall H to accommodate all the fans.

The first thing developer Niantic did was reveal the identities of the respective leaders for Team Mystic, Team Valor and Team Instinct. Say hello to Candela, Blanche and Spark. What they do besides exist hasn’t been revealed at this point, but note how each team bears the symbol of a Legendary Bird. Players haven’t been able to find Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres in the wild yet. Hmmmm.

Niantic assured the crowd that, yes, more Pokemon will eventually be in the game besides the 151 originals they started with. As for the often-demanded feature of trading your Pokemon with others…it’s happening! Just not tomorrow. They said only one-tenth of the initial ideas they had for Go could be implemented in the app, and that a lot more content was on its way.

But before any of that can happen, more of the bugs have to be ironed out. Niantic admitted the majority of their coding time these days is spent frantically fixing glitches and trying to keep the server from crashing.

For now, the dev team hinted that there are still some elements of the game players haven’t discovered yet. It was recently found that giving your Eevee a certain name will guarantee a specific evolution. John Hanke, CEO of Niantic, said there are more secrets like that in the game, which despite millions of users, no one has found.
