Rudolph Won’t Let Marvel Play Any Reindeer Games

by on November 27, 2013

The first official holiday showing – because you know there will be at least 97 other re-broadcasts – of the season for “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer” by CBS easily won the ratings race for Tuesday evening over superhero-tinged and poorly-titled newcomer “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Rudolph, with his nose so bright, gathered 11.4 million viewers for the classic Rankin/Bass holiday cartoon which features Burl Ives as the snowman and Paul Soles as Hermey [Soles was the first actor to ever play the role of Marvel’s Spider-Man, voicing the character for the 1967 animated television Spidey show]. “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” came in a distant second at 9.5 million viewers for ABC and NBC brought up the rear with “The Voice”.

“Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer” debuted in 1964 and has been aired nationally at least once every year since then.
