"Puss in Boots" Shows Surprising Legs with $33M in Ticket Sales for Second Weekend
DreamWorks Animation’s Puss in Boots showed surprising strength in its second week of release, taking in an estimated $33.035 million at the box office. The amount represents only a 3.1% drop in ticket sales when 40-50% or more is the norm, and represents the smallest drop in sales since My Dog Skip gained 3% in its second weekend of release in 2000. The total was comfortably in front of its nearest competitor, the Ben Stiller/Eddie Murphy comedy Tower Heist, which took in an estimated $25.1 million. Expectations are for another strong weekend before more family films open to compete with Puss in Boots with the arrival of the Thanksgiving weekend.
