"Ponyo" Takes in $3.5M at Box Office in Debut Weekend

Studio Ghibli’s Ponyo took in an estimated $3.5 million in ticket sales on its inaugural weekend, opening on 927 screens for an estimated $3,782 per screen. The results were good enough to place the movie at #9 at the box office over the weekend.

In other animation-related box office news, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra dropped nearly 60% to take in $22.5 million domestically in its second week of release, as well as another $26.2 million internationally.
