Disney XD, the new exclusive home of the Pokemon anime, announced today that Pokemon Sun and Moon — the latest iteration of the long-running series — will premiere on May 12.

Since the network already ran the first two episodes of Sun and Moon back in December, you could be forgiven for thinking that it already started. Those episodes were intended as a “special preview” and will rerun May 12 for anyone who missed them the first time. The following morning at 9 AM, the debut of Sun and Moon’s third episode will premiere — and from that point forward, new Pokemon Sun and Moon episodes will show up every Saturday morning at 9.
Sun and Moon is a shakeup for the series, using a new art style, different animation and new twists on the old formulas. Team Rocket actually wins a Pikachu battle at one point (they’re just as dumbfounded as anyone watching is), and one entire episode deals with a Pokemon’s death. This is to say nothing of the creepiness that is Mimikyu.
Ready or not, here it comes…the Pokemon Sun and Moon TV series launches May 12 on Disney XD.
