Pokémon X and Pokémon Y Announcements: Classic Starter Pokémon Available, Pokémon Bank and Special Edition Nintendo 3DS

by on September 4, 2013

The Pokémon Company announced today that players of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will be given a choice to receive classic starter Pokémon Bulbasaur, Squirtle or Charmander from Professor Sycamore. These classic partners from Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue will be able to Mega Evolve from their normal evolved forms into Mega Venasaur, Mega Charizard and Mega Blastoise. It was revealed that a second condition must be met to allow Mega Evolution for those Pokémon that can Mega Evolve. Trainers will need to obtain a bracelet called the Mega Ring, which holds the Key Stone. The Mega Ring, in conjunction with the Mega Stone held by the Pokémon, will trigger Mega Evolution.

The Director from GAME FREAK, inc. also announced Pokémon Bank. The new Nintendo 3DS application will allow Pokémon X and Pokémon Y players to store up to 3,000 of their Pokémon on the internet. The Pokémon may be spread across 100 boxes in the Pokémon Bank. These are in addition to boxes available directly in the two games. Players will be able to deposit and withdraw Pokémon from multiple copies of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. The Pokémon Bank application is activated upon payment of an annual service fee. The fee will support maintenance of the online servers that will store the potential 3,000 Pokémon per player. It is also being built with support of future Pokémon titles in mind.

Players who activate Pokémon Bank will be able to use the Poké Transporter to easily transfer Pokémon caught in other Pokémon games such as the Pokémon Black and Pokémon White games. Pokémon Bank will be available in North America on the Nintendo eShop. More details on the applicaton, including a free trial period will be added to pokemon.com in the near future.

Two special Nintendo 3DS XL hardware designs featuring art from Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will be available on September 27, at $199.99 SRP. The systems will be available in Red or Blue and feature Legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal. To view the Nintendo Direct presentation in its entirety, visit nintendo.com/nintendo-direct.
