Otakon 2013 is underway and given the lineup this year, there’s going to be something awesome happening whenever someone gets there. The music acts alone are pretty much worth the trip, with TM Revolution headlining on Saturday with a full arena show and Yoko Kano doing a piano concert on Sunday. There’s also several premier screenings including Wolf Children and Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo, a quite frankly massive number of US and Japanese voice acting and production guests, a full run of fan programing, the massive dealer’s room and heaven only knows what other wonderful and/or bizarre things packed into the weekend.
In a bit of a weather whipsaw from the last big anime con Toonzone was at, Anime Boston. The weather for Baltimore on Friday was very hot, muggy and wet, although the rest of the weekend looks to be less so. It’s hard to say exactly what’s better, the cold or the heat, but in any event you can’t get perfect 75 degree temperature and sunshine every day. This is Baltimore, not San Diego. And this being Baltimore, there’s that bit of funkiness that can only be found here – the weather, the crabs and seafood that are still a thing, the hope that the manhole covers don’t explode again. All this and more combines to make that wonderful Otakon experience, now celebrating 20 years of communal insanity. Whoo boy!
