Oshii’s Latest Feature Selected for Venice Film Festival
Production I.G. announced today that the latest film from the famed anime director Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell), Tachigui: The Amazing Lives of the Fast Food Grifters, has been selected for competition at the 63rd Venice International Film Festival in the Horizons (Orizzonti) section. That section, which is separate from the category competing for the Golden Lion award, will include a maximum of 15 feature films and seven documentaries.
In the press release, Oshii was quoted as saying, “I want to express my appreciation for choosing this eccentric movie.”
I.G. president Mitsuhisa Ishikawa was quoted as calling Tachigui “the type of movie that director Oshii had been longing to make for years.”
For more information on Tachigui, see the complete press release or Japanese official site. The film’s trailer is available here. Toon Zone covered Production I.G.’s panel at Anime Expo this month where the trailer was screened.
